What’s happening in the United States?
Within the last 2 years, a record number of bills aimed at the LGBTQ+ community have been passed. 325 related bills were proposed across the US, with 130 of them specifically targeting transgender people. Out of 268 bills introduced in 2021, 27 were passed as laws.
According to the CDC, almost 47% of gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth considered suicide in that year. This highlights how restrictive legislation can negatively impact the mental and physical health of the LGBTQ+ community.
